Very cute gelato shop in downtown Highland Park. They stress the benefits of gelato over ice cream and it's true - less calories and fat, and it loses nothing in flavor. Frost may just be my new favorite gelato shop. It has a TON of flavors to choose from. Seriously I had a hard time settling on two but finally picked Mint Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter Crunch. It's awesome that you can mix any two flavors you like...that made me a much a happier girl getting to try two off my list. All of the flavors looked SO good - even the flavors I know I wouldn't normally like. The presentation is just adorable for each and every one with cute little food items lodged in the gelatos and sorbets to properly showcase what the flavors were. My friend and I chilled outside this afternoon at one of their outdoor sidewalk tables. To top it off, a girl came out with a tray of water for everyone sitting outside. What a sweet touch! I must go back and try more from Frost!

My favorite place to get gelato! I enjoy telling all my friends about this place and bringing them here! I cant wait for summer to start and bring my Boyfriend here like old times! Always going for a walk and always ended up here! The employees are AMAZING and SUPER nice!!

This is perfectly good gelato. I come here a lot, but it's not something I DREAM about later. I think it's just a little too close to a regular ice cream shop, as opposed to a gelato shop, for my tastes. The straciatella, pistachio and chocolate-hazelnut are great (along with a few others), but some of the flavors are clearly not even close to authentic (bubblegum?). Another thing I miss, which I've been able to do in every other gelato shop I've been to, is having more than one flavor per cup. I want to mix my flavors! But those aren't huge complaints. The gelato here really is pretty tasty. I like it a lot.

If you're stressed..looking for something sweet and cold..want to just relax and hang out.....I would recommend Frost Gelato...it's a cool place with friendly staff! Gelato (~$4-5 for the 2nd biggest size, you can pick 2 flavors tho--see photo I posted) -Dark Chocolate --very sweet and tastes exactly like dark chocolate... -Stracciatella --tastes like cookies and cream -Pistachio --tastes exactly like pistachio and has pistachio pieces in it too -Hazelnut-delicious and tastes like any other hazelnut flavored ice cream/gelato that you may have tasted.. there's soo many flavors to choose from..and from the ones I've tried.. they taste exactly/almost identical like the flavors..AND most of them are really really really sweet!! ..i think enough sweet for the whole year from me.. Atmosphere: I love the decor, space, colors --store color is blue which gives it the perfect cool feeling....the seating is limited so on a hot summer day.. you might have difficulty finding a seat..but you can always walk around the area and eye shop while you eat your melting gelato! Customer Service: the staff are very friendly and serve you water when you are seated..which is perfect when eating a lot of sweet gelato...:) Costs: a little bit on the high end..but if it's a once in awhile thing.. it's ok to splurge.. Parking: it's the suburbs.. so plenty of free parking! :) I would stop by again if I were in the area.. I love the variety of flavors! I wish I can taste test them all!!

It takes a pretty awesome place to get me excited about frozen treats when it is 19 degrees outside. Gelato =/= a hot soy latte. Still, I was in Highland Park and the sun had just decided to peek out to play, and I was determined to give Frost Gelato a whirl. The space is shiny and new. There are an absurd number of rotating flavors to choose from. First, do I want Gelato? Sorbet? Dietetic (no sugar added)? Then, flavors. I was torn between the roasted almond, the sea salt caramel, or the tangelo sorbet... but upon hearing about their Sorbettini (any of their sorbet flavors blended with bubbly San Pellegrino) opted for the Strawberries & Champagne. And it was delicious, I tell you. Light, fruity, and bubbly. It was a lovely afternoon treat to enjoy while sitting (inside) and enjoying the sun. Service was very friendly, and I really love how the gelato is presented. A half cracked open coconut on the coconut, ladyfingers sticking out of the tiramisu, bananas sticking out of the banana... you get the point. Frost: totally worth the brain freeze.

Came here around 9pm on a Thursday and this place was packed. The presentation is great on the inside, it looks really modern and clean. Not to mention the way they put the gelatos in the cases are all top notch, I was impressed. I settled on half peanut butter crunch and half sea salt caramel and I can't really compare to other gelatos but it was great. Looking at the low calorie claims they make on their website it's hard to belie after I tried it. There weren't any seats outside but it's in the middle of downtown Highland Park so the gf and I took a stroll and checked it out. On a side note, I counted about 3 cupcake shops within a two block radius. The only bad thing I can say is that it's kinda pricey I guess, very worth it though.

I will admit it... I was only in Frost for a few minutes. But I sure could tell a lot in those few minutes. The store is impeccably clean. Squeaky. Brightly lit. Awesome presentation of the different gelatos, and several different flavor options. Friendly service. You want to try twelve different flavors? By all means! This gelato is the real deal. It is creamy and intensely flavored. It's authentic. I cannot wait to be walking through downtown Highland Park in the summertime and stop into Frost.

Love love love this place! I think we come here every other week! The selection is great and we love the sea salted caramel, hazelnut, double chocolate, cheese cake and the kids love the lemon and bubble gum flavor! Friendly staff too!

The sorbettini is fantastic. You can have it made with three flavors of sorbet. This place is fantastic for haning out on a hot summer night!

curb appeal. draws a crowd and is popular. presentation is top notch. Prices are steep, but then again, have you been to dairy queen lately? Prices are not much better there, so you might as well make it a good one if you are going to indulge. I got a pint of dark chocolate mixed with strawberry champagne sorbet. From the little I tried, it tasted OK, but I bought it mostly for my lady (she is the sweet head). Me, I am still a Jeni's fan. I AM intrigued by Frost's ingredient and calorie claim (heavily noted by signage in the store) check it out here frostgelato.com/menuitem…

I didn't count, but I think they must have at least 25 different flavors. It's a new, very clean, attractive store which gets very busy but it seems to have enough seating to accommodate everyone. You can mix two or three different flavors, but you need to purchase a medium size or larger for that option, I believe. The counter seems oddly overstaffed, yet underworked at times. This being my only complaint, I will come back when in the mood for gelato. However, I'm more of a froyo fan.

This was only my third time going for gelato and my third place. I was actually pretty impressed with the establishment. Very well laid out and not too cramped as some places tend to do so they can pack as many people in as possible. They also had a good size staff so they could handle the customer load. Usually these places will only have a couple people and the wait is horrendous. The selection of gelato was also larger than I anticipated. The last two gelato places only had about 12 flavors. Here they had about 20+; a good amount of which were fruit flavors. I ended up going with the peanut butter crunch and vanilla. Peanut butter can be a very hit or miss flavor. This turned out to beanie hit and coupled with the vanilla made it rather nice. The vanilla helped to keep the peanut butter from becoming overpowering. Would I go here again? Yes, if I'm in the area. Its a little too far to go on a whim, for me, but if I'm visiting my friends or at Mirimar I might.

Living in Phoenix, my first exposure to Frost came when I went down to Tucson for a weekend getaway. After visiting its store in Tucson, I was immediately hooked. It was much to my great surprise (and joy!) that I heard Frost expanded outside of Tucson and opened another store in Highland Park! When I came to visit family and relatives during the holidays, I knew I had to stop by and enjoy the delicious treat that is a cup of Frost Gelato. Thankfully, this Frost location did not disappoint, delivering the same flavor as the original store location. What I love most about this store is the wide variety of gelato options, each equally delicious. I tried a few favors, but ultimately settled on the holiday flavors of chocolate and peppermint. The combination was fantastic. In addition to the basic staples, Frost also had numerous fruity options, such as raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, etc. I also tried the sea salt caramel and it was incredible. I would highly recommend it. Overall, this visit was well worth it. The gelato is just as delicious as I had remembered. The staff was friendly and helpful, willing to provide multiple samples so that I could make up my mind. The location in downtown Highland Park was fun, and I can easily see how wonderful it will be to walk around with Frost gelato once this winter subsides. If you are new to Frost, I would recommend that you try this store out... You will not be disappointed.

Yes, I'm writing a review of a gelato shop in the middle of winter. But this place is just that dang good. The decor is modern and chic while remaining inviting, while a dizzying array of flavors is presented playfully with props in the tubs. I wanted to try every last one. After tasting the sea salt caramel, lemon sorbet, and hot pepper chocolate (all presented by the friendly and knowledgeable gelato-slinger Tom), I settled on the cappuccino. It was to die for - the only thing keeping me from jumping over the counter and eating the entire tub was my quickly-fading new year's resolution (and fear of being arrested). This is a fantastic new spot in an excellent location, and I'm guessing (and hoping) we're going to see more Frost Gelatos in Chicagoland sooner than later. I'm also guessing that come summertime, the lines are gonna be out the door and around the block. Get it now, while it's cold!!!

New ice cream/gelato shops come and go however this one is a gem. I have had gelato in Italy and this is as close as it gets to the real deal. The gelato is beautifully presented and tastes as fresh and creamy as it looks. The staff is attentive and wonderfully friendly. You can have many taste samples and they are happy to serve! The store is clean and they come around periodically with glasses of ice water. A fabulous addition to Highland Park.

Delicious, pricey, but top-notch. They let you sample multiple before making a choice and give you a good serving, even if it is on the expensive side.

Walked in on a whim for some gelato on a warm spring day. It's a nice spot with outdoor seating and the inside was modern and clean. There were three cases full of gelato, so selection is not a problem here. From your traditional fruit flavors and the stracciatella, to the exotic limoncello and strawberries and champagne. I wanted to badly after walking in to re-live our trip to Italy but the gelato just didn't do that for me. Don't get me wrong, what we got to try (dark chocolate, strawberry, black cherry, mango and stracciatella) were all good, but just not the same, even though Frost claims to import all their ingredients from Italy. I think the chocolate chip and the dark chocolate were my favorites. Something about the fruit ones didn't seem to ring true to the real fruit flavors I would have expected, but they were still good. If we are in the area we will definitely be back.

OK, so I have never been to Rome. I realize that no gelato here can compare. Having said that I think this is one of the better gelato places in the burbs. I really love every flavor I try here. They are presented beautifully and are smooth, smooth, smooth. I also appreciate the poster with the nutrition info and comparison to ice cream. Makes me feel good about myself for going here instead of DQ accross the street. Sure does. Minus one star for the lack of seating. In the summer there are more tables outside but in the off season there are like 5 little metal tables inside.

Best GELATO! Love it here. I just came back from Italy and I have to say Frost Gelato is as good as the Gelato I had in Italy. Whenever I'm near Highland Park, I make sure to pay Frost Gelato a visit.

I've been a Salted Caramel- Dark Chocolate devotee at Frost for some time now. However, yesterday I decided to be bold and change it up and go for Cookies and Cream and Stracciatella... and it was great! Definitely on the slightly more expensive side, but if I'm going to be eating ice cream/ gelato, this stuff is the most "healthy" (read: less calories) and tastes the best out of all the other ice cream/ froyo options in HP (Love's, Menchies, etc).

Just tried the sorbettini-pineapple, tangelo, and mango sorbet mixed with Pellegrino water-DELICIOUS!! Dairy free and fat free! Love the Frost Bites too. We have not had a flavor we don't like-we especially love salted caramel!!! Thank you Jazmine for the recommendation for flavors of my sorbettini!!!

Amazing gelato, beautiful cakes, artful flavors. It was difficult to decide what flavor to pick. They have a small cup with the perfect sized spoon for kids. The parking can be difficult on the weekends, but during the week I didn't have any problem finding a spot. It doesn't hurt that it is in the middle of some excellent shopping as well.

It was hot enough to sweat the balls off a pool table, so I decided to get an icy treat. Frost is well regarded and has a patio (so I could my dog could join me) therefore this place was a no brainer. The location is great. It's in the lively town square. There's plenty of street parking plus its by the Metra train station. Frost is very modern and clean. The decor kinda reminds me a bit of the Mode offices on Ugly Betty. LOL ! It was quite busy with happy families but the line moved quickly. I tried the cheesecake gelato which was extremely flavorful. And a bite of the black cherry gelato which was so refreshing. I chose a small cup of the cookies and cream gelato and cup of ice for my Yorkie to crunch. The small portion was very generous. It was creamy and the cookie bits were well distributed evenly. I liked the texture and consistency. Sometimes gelato can be very soft, which can cause it to melt quickly. I enjoyed my dessert and sitting in the shade & my dog liked his ice plus all the compliments he received from the patrons and street people strolling by. It was a delightful evening. I would definitely return on another hot day. OR a Frost-y one!

I first heard of Frost at a bridal expo where they had a cart and were handing out samples of gelato to try. After trying their dark chocolate flavor, I was sold! It was so incredibly flavorful but yet soft and creamy. So delicious! As a result, Frost was one of the first vendors we booked for our wedding which took place this past August. The owner, Steve, was an absolute joy to work with as he coordinated all the details with precision and helped us choose the best flavors to feature at our wedding. I was so happy with how everything turned out. Not only was the gelato a hit but the company was great to work with. Highly recommend stopping in for a cup or using them as a vendor at your next event!

It's really easy to be overwhelmed during your first visit here. There are just so. many. flavors. Gelatos and sorbets. And the tops of the bins are gorgeously decorated with fruits and drizzles to make every flavor look extra appealing. Service is friendly and you are welcome to sample as many of their gazillion flavors as you'd like. Store is pristine and their location has access to ample parking. And the gelato - it's good. The dark chocolate is particularly delicious (the flavor is rich, not too sweet, and the finish is refreshing instead of muddled like ice cream). The sorbettos are acidic and refreshing for those who like that. Nothing is overwhelmingly sweet, which is awesome. There's a bunch of flavors and you're bound to find one or two you like. But I find that a lot are pretty similar to each other. My only gripe, and it's probably not a major one for most of the people out there, is that the texture isn't thick and elasticky like I'd love gelato to be (like at Linz and Vail). The way the gelato melted made it feel too close to ice cream - though I admit that initially the finish is super clean. That might all be fine and dandy and it still tastes good, but for imported ingredients from Italy and the hefty price tag, I expected a little more. Still though, a perfectly delicious treat on a hot summer day. I'm sure Highland Park residents have no issue with the price either.

We were having dinner around the corner and decided to find a dessert place. I pulled out my handy Yelp app and saw this really cool gelato shop. Needless to say, the photos lived up in person. When you walk in, you'll notice the space age display case that would be cool enough to be in the city. Then you'll notice the large assortment of gelato. Actually, if there was one gripe it would be there are just too many darn choices! I know, it's a rough problem to have. My party all tried different flavors (somehow my spoon ended up in all of them -- I'm not sure why) and the flavors were all good. Seriously. They were all good. If you can't make up your mind, you can always take a couple of containers home and try them out later :)

Yum! So many flavors to choose from but you can sample til you find what you want. Med and up you can get two flavors. I've had the mint chocolate chip which is yummy and today I had half limoncello and raspberry. They said they make everything here on site.

Great place for dessert even on a cold winter's day! The variety was quite extensive and I was very tempted to sample all the gelato before making a decision but decided to go for the pistachio and hazlenut. They were both very creamy and delicious. The hazelnut was nothing too special from gelato I've had at other places but the pistachio stood out by far. The pistachio flavor was very strong and there were many whole pistachios throughout the gelato.. for all the pistachio lovers out there, this one's for you. Service was great! The guys behind the counter were very patient as I stood there being very annoyingly indecisive. They even brought out water for everyone to drink while devouring our treat. yumm!!

I am so in love with this place!! The texture and taste of each flavor I try is amazing! I'm currently eating the toasted marshmallow and salted caramel.. I also loved the pumpkin flavor. Yum! Happy fall! I also LOVE that they give water out while you enjoy your treat. Many other froyo/ ice cream places don't do this!

By far, the best place for ice cream in the NorthShore! We lived in the city for years and I never found a gelato place this authentic (very close to what you would get in Italy). Tons of flavors to choose from and everything tastes very fresh, not artificial. Its pricey but well worth it. The smallest size looks tiny but they really pack it in there and is plenty in my opinion. Only downside is if you want two flavors, you need to order the medium or larger size (smart business decision). Modern place, friendly staff, great place to get together w friends. We ordered a cake from here and it was not only delicious, but decorated beautifully! Everyone asked where it was from. Not in the mood for gelato, well, they have delicious chocolate candy gelato and coffee here too.

I would rate this place with 3.5 stars. It's my first time here. Had heard good things about it, especially from Steve Dolinsky. This place has good variety and flavors. I liked the taste of their Pistachio, Roasted Almond, Espresso Chip, Cookies n Cream, Pumpkin, Rum Raisin etc. The espresso chip had a strong deep flavor which I really liked. I have had better Pistachio flavor elsewhere. The texture of gelato was smooth & creamy. This place is good but not anything special or out of ordinary. Paciugo's is better. Even Mariano's, Cafe Vera gelato is just as good. Go here if you haven't been before. It's worth checking out.

How many times have we walked down this street and not paused to walk into Frost? Answer: as it turns out, way too many times! As happens, talk turned to restaurants and our friends mentioned a gelato place in HP. By rights, this was our territory, not theirs. So we went. We've gone twice recently and can say we've been very pleased each time. Mid-afternoon was less hectic and the staff had more luxury to smile and chat. Evening time, understandably, the place was busy--smiles from staff, but no time for extended conversation. I have confirmed their chocolate is heaven! My partner is by constitution more limited in what she can have (avoid dairy/gluten)--happily, not a problem. Myriad choices of flavors--each one looks like a winner--samples offered. And attention to small details such as someone offering cups of water as the patrons enjoy--another plus. So I loved it and I will try to figure how to break the chocolate chain of custody over me. I can do this! Frost will help!

I was first introduced to Frost in Tucson, and was delighted to see that one opened in Highland Park. My criteria for great gelato were shaped when I lived in Italy, and Frost comes pretty close to that. What I like: * The display: Frost gets it right, with lots of tubs of brightly colored gelato piled high, decorated with fun garnishes, and scooped with flat, spatula-like scoops. * The flavors are authentic: stracciatella, gianduia, cioccolato, pistacchio, nocciola, fragola, pesca, melone, tiramisu, etc. * The quality is good. Is it esattamente like the gelato in Italy? No, but who cares when it's this close? * They put the cute cookie in each cup. * The place is spotless. * Gelato makes you thirsty, and Frost always always comes around with cups of water to quench your thirst. What I'm not "noci" about (sorry, I had to...): * It's a rather expensive treat * They won't put two flavors in the piccolo cup. * Service is hit or miss; although I have to say, they've never been rude. Just sort of uninterested.

My family visited FROST this past weekend, and let me just say, it was awesome! The best part was that each serving only had 3.5 grams of fat. The gelato is full of flavor and I think they get all their equiptment and ingredients from Italy. While we were snacking, a gentleman came around with cups of water. That was a huge impact on me because I think everyone gets thirsty when eating gelatos, and to have it brought to you was very thoughtful. We will definitely return!

Best Gelato in the Chicagoland area. The chocolate has chunks of chocolate . Made in house with ingredients from Italy, it doesn't get much better. They even sell pints or quarts to take home. The presentation is as good as the product.. "I'll be back."

Great choices, dense flavors and a cool, clean atmosphere with plenty of seating. This is the 31 flavors of the gelato world. And, apparently not overly dense on calories. Our girls love heading out for a long walk and trip to Frost. It's definitely something I will miss for the few months when Chicagoland weather and gelato don't mix.

I CANNOT contain my love for this place!! I'd for sure say "woohoo! as good as it gets" to this one!! I've been meaning to come here ever since it opened like a year and a half ago...but never got around to it...that is until...let's see...12 days ago to be exact! Within that time frame of a little over a week, I've been there three times!! And the shop is not exactly right down the street if ya know what I mean...but the hike to Highland Park is undoubtedly worth it!! So, the first time I came here I got dark chocolate and sea salted caramel and my oh my were my taste-buds in absolute merriment. I am not exaggerating when I say how insanely delicious the gelato is from this place: it is so impossibly creamy AND intensely flavorful AND rich!! I soooo did not expect this level of flavor out of gelato! You could almost be fooled into thinking that you are eating some ultra-high-in-butterfat-Cold Stone ice cream!! no joke. And that is reeeeally saying something coming from me, considering that I am quite addicted to Cold Stone... PLUS, they have sooooooo many fantastic flavor options that I always have such trouble choosing...all I can say is that I get 1/2 dark chocolate EVERYTIME (it is ridiculous how exceptional it is) plus 1/2 of some new flavor! Anyways, not only is Frost so wondrous because of their gelato, but their service is also exceptional. They are super friendly and attentive and they REALLY take a lot of care into packing your gelato cup with the gelato to avoid any air pockets and sad gelato-voids - so you get your money's worth for sure! The times that I have sat down in here to have my cup of deliciousness they have always come around handing out cups of ice cold water - super thoughtful. My NEW FAVORITE GELATO SPOT for sure!!!!!

delicious. TONS of flavors, lots of samples.. beautiful presentation as well. i actually went for sorbets, which is surprising as i love creamy, super sweet flavors.. i got the medium just so i could get two flavors, and had the mango and strawberry and champagne. the mango was phenomenal. i loved the strawberry and champagne when tasting it, but didn't end up finishing it. my only qualm is that it gets confusing when a line forms behind you. one employee is supposed to take a party's order (i think), so i was surrounded by incoming customers trying to look and try samples as I stood there, in the way, waiting for my order to be taken. the person who was supposed to take mine was making my guy's shake so couldn't attend to me, but someone else should have stepped up and asked..

Over the past years that I've been in here This is and will be the Best gelato/ sorbet that I've ever had. My favorited flavors are strawberry, raspberry, and the variety of seasonal sorbet flavors; on the gelato side my favorite flavor was cookies & cream, marble black cherry, mint chip, peppermint (seasonal) and gianduia. If you never been here, I suggest you go it worth the wait!

For some reason for years I had bad lasting impression that gelato is bad and has chunks of ice in it... man was I wrong, I guess I just had some very awful gelato before. There are sooooooo many flavors I couldn't make a decision for about 15 minutes! (You can sample as many as you want fyi) I settled on nuttela and coconut flavors. Oooooooh I was in icecream heaven consuming this! Each bite was so smooth and flavorful, and it did not leave me with a craving for a glass of water, I gatta admit a lot of ice creams will make me reach for water caz they are too sweet. There are also cake that you can get, and while you eat you get to watch videos on how these cakes are made. COOL! The girls and guys behind the counter are extremely friendly too! While we were eating, a girl came around with a huge tray of cups of water offering customers free water! The place seemed very busy for a weeknight, and it was suuuuuper clean. The prices are maybe a bit steeper, but they are no more than froyo shops and ice creams places that are popping up everywhere now, so it's worth the buck. I am not sure about their claim that their gelato is low calorie... when is ice cream ever healthy? Maybe if you think that you are eating it for the calcium? :-)

I love going to Frost! It's a bit far from where I live, but any time I'm in the area I make an effort to get here. The gelato is always displayed beautifully and there were many employees happily waiting for us to make our decision. I asked a question about the difference between two flavors and the girl quickly gave me samples of both while telling me about it. They happily gave my mom tons of samples because she couldn't decide, did not seem annoyed or put-off by it at all. All in all the employees are very helpful and nice. I usually get a medium so I can mix two flavors. Both their gelato and their sorbet is wonderful. I don't think you can go wrong if you take the time to figure out what you want! The decor is nice and modern. They have a few tables; this visit they had another room opened up for seating which is the first time I've seen them do that. It was very calm in the store though, and an employee came around to all the tables and offered cups of water. When we got up, they said goodbye and thanked us for coming in. Overall a really nice store! Worth the $.

Okay, i admit that gelato is nothing new. There's stores popping up everywhere. BUT Frost has got to be my new fave! As a comparison, Paciugo comes as my close 2nd. So if you LOVE it there, you'll love it here. I first heard about Frost from my cousin in ARIZONA. Yes, that's where the man from Italy decided to open his first location. And now..it's Highland Park of all places.. I feel he's missing out not being in the city, but maybe it's a smart move?? I have loved every flavor i've had there. It's got the all natural real ingredients. I love seeing the little specks of coconut and mango in my gelato. I love the sweet touch of a wafer cookie they add on top as a little free sweet treat. :) Sea salt caramel..mint chocolate chip...FEED ME MORE! It's a little bummer that they only let you put one flavor in a small, two in a medium, or three in a large, but HEY!..it gives me more reasons to go back and try some new future favs! :) Definitely go the gelato route next time you're in Highland Park. You will LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Thank me by filling your tummies!

The gelato presented behind the glass was discouraging because gelato is supposed to be very dense. My fiancé and I opted to order from their impressive shake menu instead. I chose to get the banana foster with whip cream and was able to add coconut. It was delicious. He had the blueberry truffle......which really just tasted like a chocolate shake. Perhaps they failed to add enough blueberries. In any case, I was very satisfied w my dessert but I am starting to feel geleto bars need to step up their game by becoming more authentic. Big Pro: Customer service!! it was such a hot day (ironically the last day of summer) and a kind gentlemen worker was handing out free water. Con-crowded line....no real structure. They need a separate sample line and a line for people who already KNOW what they are getting. Come to think of it, all Gelato places I have been to have this problem. Over whipped, airy fluffy Gelato.

If you can't get to Italy for gelato, Frosts in Highland Park is a great choice. "Regular" flavors along with more unusual ones are available and if you'd like to try before buying, samples are cheerfully provided. A bit pricey but worth the splurge! There are tables inside and out, water is offered and the tables are clean! The sea salt caramel is incredible!

I've been meaning to get to this place and have passed by it many times. Well, I finally got my butt inside and glad I did! The place was so clean and bright - not unlike a sterile surgery room! The employees seemed happy to work here and greeted everyone as they walked in. I could not believe how many choices there were and was torn between a few: The Mango The Sea Salt Caramel The Strawberry and Champagne Well, I opted for the Mango and it was crazy good. The small cup went down fast and I'm going back soon to hit the seasalt!!

So many good things to write about... Frost is a beautiful, well-lit, futuristic space. Its employees are friendly. The gelato is tasty and well-arranged - champagne corks adorning the "bellini" flavor, for instance. They clearly pay attention to detail! I can't really give more than three stars to a place that charges $4 for a comically small scoop of gelato. I'm not someone who needs ALL OF THE GELATO, and I realize that the delicious ingredients are imported. Still. The scoop was the size of my fist, and I have comically small hands. I feel like Frost is an experiment - how much will Highland Park residents pay for a tiny scoop of gelato, when they can get frozen yogurt for a better price at the 129810310 other places in town? Boo.

Love this place! Stopped by for some cold dessert, even though it was still 30° outside. Decor is clean & pristine. Unlike most gelato places that have maybe 8-12 gelato/sorbet flavors max, this place had more than I could count making it a little difficult for indecisive ol' me. I ended up going for the Irish Whiskey (Bailey's, basically) and the Alpencaramel. So delicious! The flavors here are intense. The dark chocolate is rich & a little bitter just like the real deal. Pistachio was like eating creamy pistachios. Gelato was delicious and service was awesome! They served us water just as we were seated.

I'm a BIG fan of this place. In fact, it's some of the best gelato that I've ever had in the north shore or in Chicago. I've been to Florence, where gelato originated so I kinda know what's good and real authentic quality. Frost has consistently been delicious, fresh and makes me come back for more, especially on hot summer days. The place is usually busy, and they have indoor seating as well as a few outdoor tables, oh and a private room in case you want to have a little gelato party. My favorite flavor is the chocolate hazelnut one which is super creamy, chocolately, yet a little light with chunks and I mean huge chunks of chocolate/hazelnut candy..It's to die for ladies, I mean it! Plus, they have a huge selection so if that one isn't for you, go for the mango or the sea salt caramel, they pretty much have it all. What is also nice is that when sitting inside they bring you complimentary water to your table (or at least they did the few times I was inside), now that's a nice customer service touch. I also really like the mini waffle cone they give you with each cup of gelato. Now, my only complaint is that it's a tad on the pricey side, I mean I had gelato in Florence for about 1 euro which is like $1.50 us dollars for a small and Frost charges $4.00, a little much in my opinion, especially for a small. I think it should be closer to $3.00 but then again, that won't stop me from coming back. When there's a demand, they kinda can charge whatever they want and get away with it. However, that small portion always fills me up, they somehow jam pack it in there so you kinda do get your money's worth. A must try in the north shore!

A wonderful addition to the many places in HP. Yes, it's pricey but a small gelato is actually quite filling! Service is always great and servers, sometimes even the owner / manager, coming to your table with a tray filled with cups of ice-cold water, is a nice touch! It does get crowded at night with teenagers but I don't mind- they're just there to enjoy a delectable dessert like you!

One of the best gelato places. The staff are very friendly; one of them came and brought us water. The flavors are very tasty, to the point that is difficult to choose a flavor. Bottom line: a great place...

There are a lot of favors and I like that they are not super sweet. It is impossible for you not to find something you will not like. I was really happy with bellini for a hot day in Highland Park. I also just had fun trying several of the favors before I decided too.

Frost Gelato was surprisingly wonderful. I had a small scoop of Alpencarmel--I'm guessing that it's carmel from the Alps?!? Wonderful! What was wonderful? 1. The wonderful taste--almost like the gelato in Italy, as good as it gets for the USA. 2. The wonderful price--$3 for a small in downtown Highland Park, tax included, is a bargain for this quality product. 3. The wonderful, super friendly service--the young woman working there was extremely pleasant and helpful. She offered samples. She smiled. She even brought me a glass of ice water when I was about halfway through my scoop. 4. The wonderfully clean shop--the same young woman was cleaning obsessively when she wasn't helping me--this was like a training video or something. I wish I caught her name. She deserves a raise. She is a model employee or thought I was Undercover Boss or something. 5. The wonderful presentation of the flavors--there are ingredients from the gelato decorating the top of the gelato bins (you can check it out in the posted photos). It kind of reminded me of the food displays at the front of restaurants in Japan--a welcome relief to tourists and the non-literate. OK, what was bad? One thing I found odd was the display of corks on top of the Bellini flavor. I get that they are trying to convey that champagne is in the flavor but the corks definitely didn't look edible--I wouldn't want to find cork in my gelato.

We went there tonight for the first time and had a mixed experience. The quality and selection of the gelato is very good, though it's a bit on the pricey side ($4 for a small cup). The young kid who was supposed to be working was more interested in flirting with a girl who was hanging out at the counter than in serving customers (unless they're attractive 17-year old young ladies). Overall, good product, OK value, poor service.

Maybe I should have tried their palate cleansing sorbets?! Or maybe I should not have been such a piglet in devouring all the samples. I liked this place, and it's reputation is well deserved as fresh. The site itself was full of young kids behind the counter, and mostly older people on the receiving end. Meh. It's the market. Their selection didn't strike me as rich as other places in Chicagoland or abroad, but their serving sizes were reasonable. Don't really like to overpay for ice cream, but gelato is a bit different. The kiddos did their damnest to let me know how and what went into their product. And they were tripping over themselves to help the other customers streaming into this popular little spot on the Highland Park downtown circuit. Kudos, kids! My salted caramel was creamy and sweet, without that butterscotch-y kickback. Nice. Also tried the rum raisin and that tasted just like it sounded. Maybe a little more variety and a return trip for the sorbet is in order. Take your treats out onto the street or eat in, the people watching is quite interesting.

Stopped by on a whim as we drove through the area getting back to Milwaukee. The actual place is gorgeous and very modern. Rather large for an ice cream parlor, but it looks like you can rent out the back spaces for meetings, events, etc. The two ladies there on Sunday night were great. I had some questions and they gave delicious recommendations. I ended up getting the banana split shake and the boyfriend got the mint chocolate chip one. They have many many options in terms of flavor for ice cream. The prices were a little higher than I am accustomed to, but I imagine it had a lot to do with the neighborhood. Overall, a great experience. Thanks!

Drove all the way from Grayslake for this and it was definitely worth the trip! So many flavors of gelato to choose from and they will let you same as many as you'd like! Went with a scoop pistachio and a scoop chocolate chip in a freshly made waffle cone. Only giving this place 4 stars cause it was very cold in there. Wanting a cold treat is one thing but if the place is cold on top of a cold rainy day just doesn't make the experience as enjoyable.

Nice enough people, sleek & clean store. But, it was pricey & only marginal gelato. You can get much, much better gelato at many places around here - even the mall. If your right there, I wouldn't say - don't go there. But DQ is right across the street & half the price.

I was in Highland Park over the Labor Day '12 weekend. Wow. What a town and area. The North Shore of Chicago, if it could grow palm trees along it's beaches, well, the whole area would clearly give Beverly Hills a run for the money. Presumably billions at that. This distance runner, after having run my usual weekend half-marathon by the mega-mansions and through the sylvan beauty of Highland Park's (and some of Glencoe's) lakefront along the gilded Sheridan Road, wanted my just reward for having completed the 13.1 mile jaunt. Having run by Frost during this run, I made a mental note to myself that it was going to receive the honor of providing me with my after-run goodie. It's a decision I'm glad I made. I have to admit I did not check-out Frost's entire inventory of flavors; it appeared that perhaps 3 dozen flavors were available at the time of my visit. I didn't get past the first few flavors of vegan gelatos, never giving the many dairy-based gelatos even a look. I tried a sample of the strawberry and champagne gelato (sample tastes are gladly given by the cheerful counter workers), loved it, and went on to try the peach and champagne variety, which is what I ultimately decided on. I thought the stuff was delicious. I was very tempted to go back for seconds upon devouring my small scoop (the banana gelato looked creamy beyond belief), but my runner's discipline got the best of me and told me to forget that notion. I'm now regretting I didn't succumb to my urge. Guess I'll have to wait until I make my next trip over to Highland Park, whenever that might be. Like many, I agree that the price for a small scoop ($4) is a bit on the high side, but such a price is congruent for the tony neighborhood Frost is in. I doubt price is of much concern to most of Frost's patrons.

Great place. Low calorie and big variety. Long lines seem to move very quickly. Noce staff. When you sit outside eating, the manger comes around and offers you ice water. We try to get there at least once a week.

They even brought out water for everyone to drink while devouring our treat. yumm!!

Amazing gelato, beautiful cakes, artful flavors. It was difficult to decide what flavor to pick. They have a small cup with the perfect sized spoon for kids.

Frost has a fabulous selection of flavors and is always fun to visit. The chocolate, mint chocolate chip, and caramel sea salt are all tasty. If you are in Highland Park, do yourself a big favor and stop by Frost for a special treat!

I made an amazing discovery, gelato can be extremely smooth and delicious!

  • Jon R.

You will not be disappointed.

curb appeal. draws a crowd and is popular. presentation is top notch.
